This is a cool little show
on the Sci-Fi Cable
channel. This show has a
strong cast, solid writing
and, thankfully, goes
where the original show
could not. There are
strong female characters,
yet there are no lesbians
either of European or of
color. (at least not yet!)
Still, it's well worth your
time. Give it a shot.

Flicks That Are Not As Horrible As You Might Suspect
The Bone Yard
dir: James Cummins
Yr: 1990
I
really liked this movie!! It goes places! The hero is a full slice of
woman. It's a good one to watch when you're feeling too sensitive to deal
with the dominant culture's bullshit.
Added benefit, the evil, white-haired poodle with the pink ribbon is
strangely comforting when placed in a social context. I guess I've known
and dated too many  'white-haired poodles' who have turned out to have
evil and monstrous hearts. Good to finally see them represented
on-screen in their full glory.
The Johnsons
dir: Rudolf Van Den Berg
Yr:
This is such a weird a little movie. It should be offensive (there's a
voodoo angle) but it's just so damn captivating. There's this sweet little
drama that plays out between the father and son characters. Watch it
when you're feeling generous and forgiving.
Ravenous
dir: Antonia Bird
Yr: 1999

The old west, as it really was, sans the Gay sex. This is the movie to see
on a first date with a horror-phobe. Bring her in gently with this tale of
cannibalism and desperation. White men should be eaten, not heard.
Just kidding!
Ginger Snaps
dir: John Fawcett
Yr: 2001

Teenage angst at it's best! This one starts off one way and has an
interesting climax (no pun intended).  This is actually an intelligent little
flick.  This is the movie to see when you're feeling like yours is the only
dysfunctional family in the world.
Ginger Snaps 2: Unleashed
dir: Brett Sullivan
Yr: 2003

O.K. I just saw this movie this past weekend and I have to say that it is one
of the best horror sequels of all time!! This little flick is one to watch on a
second date. She already knows that you have weird taste; show her you've
got good taste as well.  I'm dying to say more, but there's no way I'm going
to spoil this. Really, see this film. There's no fun irony here, but trust me,
you won't care.
Starship Troopers 2: Hero of the Federation
dir: Phil Tippett
Yr: 2003

I know what you're thinking, "Oh, no not another 'bug movie!'" Well,
there are big bugs in this one; but there is such a yummy helping of blood,
gore and flying viscera that it's worth treading any initial reservations you
might have. Also, this flick has such a cool anti-war message. It's not the
typical 'white boy with a big gun' type of movie. For the gore and the
message, I'd say that this flick is a fun 'time waster.'
Vamp
dir: Richard Wenk
Yr: 1986

This movie is in my collection because it spotlights the fabulous Grace
Jones.  A little  bit of Grace goes a long way in this horror/comedy.
Grace does a dance in this movie that will arouse fervour in your
heart. Admittedly, it will also leave you kind of confused. But, yeah,
sexy. Ooh, baby, Say Goodnight, Gracie!
Tomb Raider
dir: Simon West
Yr: 2001

This flick is of the 'tough chic'  genre. My God, Angelina Jolie's breast are so
huge on the cover of the DVD!  Anyway, this is an ok movie if you're just in
the mood to see a girl beat up a guy. There are no social statements here,
well certainly no positive statements.  Look, don't think too deeply about
this genre or you'll find yourself wondering why these 'tough chics' never
sport the scars, broken noses, large hands and thick set bodies that most
tough
women wear like the heroes they are . Ultimately these are
male-fantasy flicks, "she's tough as nails, but my dick quells her." Tough
chics can not, under any circumstances, look like tough women. Kind of
how "show lesbians" must not resemble the majority of human females on
the planet. Screw multi-culturalism! We must all strive to be  "Facially
Correct." Like I said don't think about it;  Just turn down the sound and
watch her breasts defy the laws of earth-based physics.
Brazil
dir: Terry Gilliam
Yr: 1985

This is truly one of my favorite movies of all time!  The movie is a nice tribute to
George Orwell's classic novel
1984.  I love the version of the song Brazil  for
which the film was named; The cheesiness of it is nothing short of comforting
for me.
The Criterion Collection  releases both the full and the doctored versions
of this film. Additionally there's an entire disc of extras that are interesting in
describing the controversial story behind the making and the release of this film.
If you've never seen this movie and don't know the story behind it, I urge you to
watch "The Final Cut" version of the film BEFORE watching  the mercilessly
butchered "Love Conquers All" version. Truly, they are two entirely different
movies. ENJOY!
Jesus Christ: Vampire Hunter
dir: Lee Gordon Demarbre
Yr: 2001

Oh yeah, hell yeah!  Kung Fu, biblical references, Lesbian Heroes, vampires, a
Mexican wrestler-- This is the movie the religious right does not want you to
see!!! In this movie's universe, the Lord Jesus loves lesbians!  Although the
bad, lesbian vampires wear black, Jesus sports black as well!  This is a gentle
movie; Heck you could even watch it with your mom. Well maybe if your
mom's a kinky little number that has a penchant for leather.
BTW, if  this describes your mom, then how'sa 'bout hooking me up with her?
If she's still young enough to have a sex drive, then she's game.  But absolutely
NO threesomes with dad, though, okay?!
More  reviews for tasty little movies
AND some tunes to boot!!
The Bare Wench Project
dir: Jim Wynorski
Yr: 2000

Watch this one with the sound off. Trust me. This is an obscenely guilty
pleasure, strictly big boobs and bad jokes. It looks as though the director
must have had a lot of fun auditioning  and casting the girls for this little
romp.
Paparazzi
dir: Paul Abascal
Yr: 2004

Paparazzi is, as you can maybe tell, is a DVD I borrowed from the public library.
{Totally support your local libraries, they're a resource greater than any oil
reserve}
If you're more in a mood to laugh at the patriarchy, then this is the film to see!
Mel Gibson is the film's producer, that alone speaks volumes.
So here, the moral of the film is that, if you're a white, heterosexual male with a
wife who knows her place and a blond, blue-eyed son, then you can do
ANYTHING to protect them and by God, the system will understand.
Our hero doesn't need any lame, weakling anger management therapy; He,
unlike the rest of us, is allowed to kill his problems, while the rest of us are
advised against militancy and encouraged, nay, BOUND to work through the
system (whether it's affective or not.) Gibson definitely had one hand in his
pants while he was overseeing the production of this bucket full of sick. Also,
check out his cameo in the therapist's waiting room!

this an R&B classic. And
it's 'lesbian friendly.'
